MOUTH ULCERS

A mouth ulcer is an ulcer that occurs on the mucous membrane of the oral cavity. More plainly, a mouth ulcer is a sore or open lesion in the mouth. Mouth ulcers are very common, occurring in association with many diseases and by many different mechanisms, but usually there is no serious underlying cause. The common causes of oral ulceration are local trauma caused by sharp edges of tooth, stress, nutritional deficiency, eating something very hot producing thermal burn, may be due to some medicines and genetics. Recurrent apthous Stomatitis is a condition characterized by recurrent formation of oral ulcers for largely unknown reasons.

Rarely a mouth ulcer that does not heal for many weeks may be a sign of oral cancer.
Usually it takes around 5-7 days for the ulcer to heal completely but symptoms such as pain need to be treated. At cosmo laser we can promote healing as well as decrease the pain of ulcers by means of diode lasers. It may require 2-3 cycles as needed, to relieve the patient from pain.
