CROWN LENGTHENING

"Crown lengthening" refers to re contouring of both gum and supporting bone so that more solid tooth structure is available for teeth restoration. The process involves the removal of gum tissue and/or bone or both. It is indicated in fractured, severely mutilated teeth to uncover the sound tooth margin hidden below gumline or When a tooth needs to be rebuilt or restored, but there is not enough tooth  left to support a secure restoration, then the crown lengthening procedure is done.

Traditionally crown lengthening was done through surgical intervention and there is considerable extent of swelling and discomfort.

If the crown lengthening is done with laser therapy instead of blade, the healing tends to be quicker and the procedure avoids swelling and discomfort.
